We visited the Pittock Mansion to see how the other half lived, and I bought this very cool 1920s-Tiffany-style peacock box in the gift shop for Emma. She’s into peacocks as of late.
Anyway, we asked the gal working the shop where we should eat lunch, and she recommended this cafeteria down the street called Elephants. We were thinking Luby’s but ok–we were up for some comfort food.
Boy, were we surprised. This place is like Central Market meets take-out on steroids. It rocks. I had the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich–grilled chicken, roasted red bell peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, and fresh mozzarella on a ciabatta. I also bought three cookies and a hand pulled caramel (for later!).
You won’t go wrong by visiting one of the Elephant Deli’s in Portland--this place is not your grandmother’s cafeteria!
