Long Hike in the Smoky Mountains

After Memphis, we headed East, into the mountains.  The cooler temperatures are most welcome, especially in light of the drought and heat we are suffering in Texas.

We started out on a short 2 mile hike that seemed pretty easy.  We stopped often, enjoying the streams that rippled around us.

Then the sky broke open and the rain came down in large sheets.  We were drenched, still over a mile from shelter.  We skipped and then ran and finally gave up and enjoyed the downpour.  It’s been a while since we’d seen a rain like that and every once in a while, it’s good to be like a kid and just stick your tongue out and stand in the rain.
